Joel Abramovitz (Grade 6) originally from the Bay Area, has been living, studying, and working in Los Angeles for the past five years. His whole life has been intertwined with Jewish education, from nine years at a Jewish day school, to active involvement with his community in his teenage years, to learning in Jerusalem, to studying Jewish Studies at UCLA. During the week, Joel is a DeLeT Fellow at Hebrew Union College, training to be a Jewish day school teacher by teaching 6th grade at Temple Israel of Hollywood Day School. This is his third year teaching at Temple Isaiah, and he hopes to continue bringing a love of Judaism and learning into the classroom.
Dan Eisner (Grades 6 & 9) is a graduate of UCLA with a B.A. in History, and St. Mary's College of California with a California Teaching Credential. He has taught in public schools and Hebrew School (at the congregation he has belonged to since the age of four) in Northern California for the past four years, and is now pursuing an M.A.Ed. from American Jewish University (formerly the University of Judaism.) He is glad to be back in Los Angeles, and looks forward to introducing his wife to her new home.
Avital Etehad (Grade 6) has been a part of Temple Isaiah preschool for the past eleven years. She is the Judaica coordinator for the preschool. She received her early childhood education from UCLA. She has taught third grade Hebrew at the Sephardic Temple. She is very eager to join the Temple Isaiah Religious School faculty, and to keep this synagogue as her second home.
Matt Kahn (Grade 6) is a graduate of Tulane University with a B.S. in Psychology. He is currently working on a joint Masters in Jewish Education and Jewish Communal Service at the Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles and spent his first year of school studying in Jerusalem. Matt previously taught religious school for 4 years in his hometown of Houston, TX, which included classes about Israel, Jewish Ethics and Values, the Holocaust, as well as Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutoring. Matt is new to Los Angeles but is looking forward to getting to know the city better and is especially excited to be teaching religious school again.
Deborah Kreingel (Grade 6 and Bar/Bat Mitzvah Tutor) is a graduate from the University of Judaism. She has been teaching at Temple Isaiah for "a number of decades." In 1999, Deborah was honored by the Bureau of Jewish Education with the Sara and Simha Lainer Distinguished Religious School Educator Award. Her daughter, Elizabeth Joy, grew up at Temple Isaiah and currently lives in New Mexico.
Tatyana Neyman (Grade 6 and B'nai Mitzvah Tutor) is a medical doctor, currently working as a clinical research coordinator at California Medical Clinic for Headache. She also has a degree in Jewish Education from Touro College for Jewish Studies. She has taught Hebrew in Moscow, Russia, for several years, before joining the Temple Isaiah staff ten years ago. Her husband, Joseph, is a college professor, and their daughter, Yulia, is doing her Family Practice residency at USC. Their grandson, Benjamin, is two and a half years old.
Nira Weiss (Grades 6 and 7) was born and raised in Acco, Israel. She taught junior high school students for ten years prior to moving to the USA in 1989. During the past 18 years she taught various age groups from pre-school to high school to adults and acquired a certificate in American Sign Language. She teaches at the Academy for Jewish Religion, a Rabbinical masters program. She is a strong believer in Jewish education and loves teaching Hebrew. This is her 4th year with Temple Isaiah.
