The Israel Action Committee was formed in August 2006, in the midst of Israel's war with Hezbollah, to help raise funds for Israeli war victims and awareness of Israel among Temple Isaiah members. Shortly after its formation, the Committee convinced the Temple Board of Trustees to hold a combined Temple and Israel High Holiday fundraising appeal. Some of the funds raised from last year's appeal were used to support the following causes in Israel:
The Committee has also helped to organize a number of events at Temple Isaiah, including last-year's Israeli Independence Day Shabbat, which included Israeli dancing, arts and crafts for the children, and a catered Israeli dinner, and a welcome back lunch for the Temple Religious School. Both programs were very successful, drawing large numbers of Temple participants.
The Committee plans to build on last-year's successes, by focusing on programs that educate and celebrate the State of Israel, and emphasize its importance to the Jewish Diaspora. Committee meetings will start after the High Holidays.
