Aliza Benitah (Kindergarten) was born in Morocco and moved to Israel at the age of 6 months. She went to school in Israel and later served in the Israeli army. Aliza earned her teaching degree at the Seminar of the Kibbutzim. She has three daughters and four grandchildren living in Israel. She moved to the USA in 1977 and has been working since then with children's education. This is her second year in our school.
Leora Dan (Kindergarten) has been teaching for the last 10 years in local Jewish day schools, and for the last three years at a local synagogue in their Shabbat and Yom Tov childcare program. Leora has been teaching kindergarteners and preschoolers in the subjects of Hebrew language, Jewish studies, and general studies. Originally from Iran, she lived in Israel for seven years before coming to Los Angeles where she currently resides with her husband and two boys. She is excited to share her energy and enthusiasm with the children and getting to know everyone in the Temple Isaiah family.
Rocki DeGroot (Kindergarten) has been teaching at Temple Isaiah for 15 years. She received her education at Cal State Northridge and U.C.L.A., with a special focus on Art. We are delighted that Rocki will be serving as a mentor teacher this year. During the week she is, and has been, a very popular art specialist at many of the Westside public schools including Overland, Westwood, Franklin Avenue, Canfield, Castle Heights, and Hawthorne. She taught a summer program for gifted and talented children in BH (art related) and she is a contributing editor for a private company that produces art education films. She and her husband, Franklin, have two adult children, Emily and Benji, who grew up as part of our Religious School.
Barbara Kaye (Kindergarten) has been teaching at Temple Isaiah since January of 2006. Barbara has also taught classes at Ohr HaTorah Congregation. She looks forward to meeting and teaching your children.
Julie Kohner (Grade 7) is a graduate of C.S.U.L.A. with a Masters of Science in Educational Counseling. She has been teaching Religious School in several congregations, for over 30 years, and has been on our teaching staff since 1994. Julie also teaches grades 6 and 7, English and Social Studies, at Emek Hebrew Academy. She is married to Stephen Greenberg, an aerospace engineer at JPL, and they have one son Daniel who was confirmed at Temple Isaiah, last year.
